SS.8.A.1.1 Provide supporting details for an answer from text, interview for oral history, check validity of information from research/text, and identify strong vs. weak arguments.

Students will be able to identify the region of each of the 13 original colonies.

Use the textbook to- 

  • Label each colony and color/shade it according to which region it is in
  • Northern/New England – Pg 73
  • Middle Colonies – Pg 77
  • Southern Colonies – Pg 82

Vocab – 

  • Subsistence Farming- growing just enough to meet immediate needs
  • Cash Crops- crops grown that are easily sold in markets
  • Diversity- having many different religions or ethnic groups
  • Indentured Servants – laborer who agreed to work for a period of time in return for passage to America
  • Mercantilism – an economic system meant to maximize exports for the home country

Wednesday:

Individual – Poster/Brochure

  • Select a region or colony to feature and create a poster/brochure that advertises the features of the region.
  • Include:
  • Geography of your region (3pts)
  • Economics of your region (3pts)
  • Culture/Religion of your region (3pts)
  • Include at least 1 vocab word (1pt)

OR

Group up to 3

  • Write a skit in which a person from each of the colonial regions brag about why their region is the best over dinner. 
  • Include:
  • Geography of each region (3pts)
  • Economics of each region (3pts)
  • Culture/Religion of each region (3pts)
  • Include at least 3 vocab words (1pt)
