Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

ELA learning target: Reading- Using anchor charts and visual instruction, students will recount the details in various genres of text (myths, folktales, fables)

Writing: Students will brainstorm and prewrite about bats.

Social Studies Target: Students will identify the roles of people in local government and how they represent the people of their community.

Classroom Activities

*Students will view a powerpoint with sample passages from different genres of text and use details to recount important parts of the story (characters, settings, problem, solution)
*Students will research facts about bats and create a prewrite of facts that they want to use in their writing
*Students will use vocabulary mapping and spelling sorts to understand their tier 2 vocabulary words and identify the various compound words in their spelling words in whole and small group.
*Students will read text about local government and create a lapbook as a record of information.
