Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

LA learning target: Reading- Using anchor charts and visual instruction, students will identify the meaning of unknown words using 1 of 5 types of context clues.

Writing: Students will plan out their writing on what makes a hero, edit it, and publish their final draft.

Social Studies Target: Students will learn about Veterans Day and the importance of recognizing those who have served our country.

Classroom Activities

*Students will view a powerpoint with sample vocabulary words to practice identifying unknown words using context clues.
*Students will complete a writing about what makes a hero for Veterans Day.
*Students will use vocabulary mapping and spelling sorts to understand their tier 2 vocabulary words and identify the various compound words in their spelling words in whole and small group.
*Students will read text about Veterans Day and understand why we celebrate Veterans Day every year.

*Veterans day quiz: Wednesday 11/10 (open notes)
*Spelling, vocabulary tests: Friday 11/12
*No school Thursday 11/11
