Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

ELA learning target: Reading- Using anchor charts and visual instruction, students will review the concepts of theme and character traits

Writing: Students will work on their zoo animal research for an animal that they would like to research and complete notes about their features.

Social Studies Target: Students will compare globes and maps and discuss the advantages & disadvantages of both.

Classroom Activities

*Students will view a powerpoint about theme and character traits that provides them with opportunities on identifying the theme of a text and the character traits of particular characters.
*Students will work in small groups in various centers to practice the skills of theme and character traits
*Students will use vocabulary mapping and spelling sorts to understand their tier 2 vocabulary words and identify the various compound words in their spelling words in whole and small group.
*Students will continue to learn about maps and globes and begin creating a lapbook about them.

*Thursday 3/3: Spelling, Vocabulary, Comprehension Assessments
*Friday 3/4: Zoo field trip
