SS.3.G.1.2: Review basic map elements (coordinate grid, cardinal and intermediate directions, title, compass rose, scale, key/legend with symbols).

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

ELA learning target: Reading- Using anchor charts and visual instruction, students will review the concepts of text features and central idea.

Writing: Students will practice the use of quotation marks in dialogue.

Social Studies Target: Students will identify the different elements of a map and their functions.

Classroom Activities

*Students will view a powerpoint about text features and central message that provides them with opportunities on identifying different text features used and the central message of a given text.
*Students will use vocabulary mapping and spelling sorts to understand their tier 2 vocabulary words and identify the various compound words in their spelling words in whole and small group.
*Students will learn about the different map elements and continue their lapbooks as a record of their learning.
